 HOMEOWNER TIPS

CAUTION: CONCRETE BURNS!    (Click Here For More Information!)

CONTACT WITH WET (UNHARDENED) CONCRETE, MORTAR, CEMENT OR CEMENT MIXTURES CAN CAUSE SKIN IRRITATION, SEVERE CHEMICAL BURNS, OR SERIOUS EYE DAMAGE!!! Wear waterproof gloves, a fully buttoned long-sleeved shirt, full length trousers, and tight fitting eye protection when working with these materials. If you have to stand in wet concrete, use waterproof boots that are tight at the tops and high enough to keep concrete from flowing into them. If you are finishing concrete, wear knee pads to protect knees. Wash wet concrete, mortar, cement or cement mixtures from your skin with fresh, clean water immediately after contact. Indirect contact through clothing can be as serious as direct contact, so promptly rinse out wet concrete, mortar, cement or cement mixtures from clothing. Seek immediate medical attention if you have persistent or severe discomfort. In case of eye contact, flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician immediately. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Decorative And Color Concrete

Ready mixed concrete has much more to offer than just your common gray. Interior floors, exterior flatwork, and building design elements can all be enhanced with color and texture to add visual value to any project. At AVR, Inc. & Affiliates we can produce and deliver concrete in hundreds of differing colors.

For more information on Decorative Concrete and Available Colors please see our DECORATIVE CONCRETE PAGE.

Do It Yourself Guide

Completing your own concrete project will involve a good deal of planning and plenty of hard work. A concrete project requires that you plan your pour, set up forms, place your order and finish your concrete.

AVR, Inc. provides this information as a courtesy to you, but be aware that once the concrete leaves the truck's chutes, it becomes your responsibility to place and finish it correctly. This Do-It-Yourself guide will take you through those steps to help you complete your concrete project.

For more information please visit the Aggregate Ready Mix Association of Minnesota website. The Portland Cement Association has also written a comprehensive, illustrated book for the do-it-yourselfer called The Homeowner's Guide to Building with Concrete, Brick & Stone available on its web site.

Ordering Concrete

Ordering concrete for the first time can be a little difficult. Spend some time on our Ready Mix Dispatch Page if you have questions about concrete or feel free to call our dispatch team at AVR and AME if you prefer live answers.

Concrete Calculator

Use our Concrete Calculator Quick Tool located at the top right of the page under Quick Tools to figure the amount of concrete needed.

Our trucks haul approximately ten (10) cubic yards per delivery when fully loaded, so remember that smaller loads often have extra delivery charges…as a result it is usually cheaper to order just a little extra rather than run the risk of running short and having to pay additional delivery charges for the balance load. Be sure to make a 10% allowance for uneven sub-grade, spillage, etc. and round up to the closest 1/4 yard.
